University of Oregon Honors Quinn for Public Service
Receiving an honorary degree for her public service is nursing advocate Winifred Quinn, PhD, FAANP(H), FAAN (H), director of advocacy and consumer affairs for the Center to Champion Nursing in America, an initiative of AARP Foundation, AARP, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that runs the Campaign. The University of Portland in Oregon conferred the degree on May 1.

“Nurse’s Fight for Equity” Documentary Now Out
Now showing online: “Who Cares: A Nurse’s Fight for Equity,” a documentary about Whitney Fear, MSN, PMHNP-BC, and her holistic approach to treating behavioral health. Growing up on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota led Fear to her passion and lifework. The producer, Shift, a community of and for nurses, makes it easy to watch and share the film.

2022 County Rankings Focuses on Economic Security
The 2022 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps report is out. This year, the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute focuses on “the importance of pursuing economic security for everyone” as the nation recovers from the pandemic and “layered crises of racism and economic exclusion.” The searchable database includes ways to take action.

May 20: Tune In to Review Plan for Health Workers’ Well-Being
Burnout among health care workers did not start with the pandemic. That’s why for nearly six years the National Academy of Medicine has been working with 200 organizations on a national plan designed to reverse trends in health worker burnout. A draft of the plan will be released May 20 and the public is invited to provide observations and ideas.

National Nurses Signing Day At Last! Celebrate the Commitment
Signing day is big in sports, and now it’s big in nursing—or should be. The first ever Nurses Signing Day, May 6, is designed to celebrate graduating seniors who have committed to a college or university to become nurses. The Center for Education and Opportunity urges schools to register to help spur excitement for those who choose to direct their lives to improving health through nursing.

Teams: Apply for Interdisciplinary Program to Fight Racism
The Interdisciplinary Research Leaders, a three-year leadership development program, aims to support action-oriented research collaborations with the goal of dismantling structural racism and advancing health equity. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation opens its 2022 application process to teams (two researchers and one community partner) from a diversity of disciplines. Deadline May 4.

HRSA Scholarship Program Accepting Applications
The Health Resources and Services Administration invites nurses to apply to the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum two-year full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent), at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. Deadline: May 5.

UPenn Community Program Seeks Faculty Director, Executive Director
The newly created Leonard A. Lauder Community Care Nurse Practitioner Program, a result of the $125 million gift from Lauder, an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania, seeks both a faculty director and an executive director. The tuition-free program will prepare a diverse cadre of expert nurse practitioners to support underserved communities across the U.S.
