The Supreme Court’s holding will not be final for another couple of months if the ruling takes effect – so now is our time to fight.

Dear Friend,

Last night, POLITICO leaked an initial draft majority opinion from the Supreme Court that marked their plans to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Let’s be perfectly clear: Roe v. Wade still stands and women still have the right to control their own bodies.

But, if this ruling takes effect, millions of women across the country will lose their right to bodily autonomy and access to critical healthcare. Based on the Court’s rationale, it will put us on a dangerous road where countless other rights will be threatened: the right to marriage equality, the right to love whomever you choose, the right to access contraception, and so much more.

The court’s holding will not be final for another couple of months – so now is our time to fight.

If you are in New York City, take action today at 5pm EST in Foley Square.

If you are outside the city, like we are, join together with your local community at 5pm at your courthouse, city hall, town square, etc. to show your support for a woman’s right to choose.

Striking down abortion rights will not stop abortion — it will stop safe abortions. Now, instead of protecting access to reproductive health choices, women will be forced to make these decisions in the shadows, without the protections that should be afforded to anyone making a medical decision.

We can’t let 50 years of constitutional precedent be trampled on by an ideologically-driven Supreme Court. I will be doing everything I can to fight against this and support the movement and organizations fighting for a woman’s right to choose.

Thanks to the Senate Democratic Majority, in 2019 we passed the New York Reproductive Health Act, after it was blocked by Senate Republicans for decades. The RHA treats abortion like the health care it is, not a criminal act, enshrines Roe v. Wade in New York's laws, and protects health care professionals who provide vital care. But we can’t take anything for granted.

Make no mistake: the entire New York State Senate Republican conference voted against codifying Roe v. Wade into law. If they ever get back in power they will try to turn the clock back in New York.

Let’s get loud.

Let’s get organized.

In solidarity,

Andrew
