Dear John,

I remember a time before Roe v. Wade and know that we cannot go back. Let’s be clear: by overturning Roe, the Supreme Court is not decreasing abortion, we are decreasing safe and accessible access to healthcare as people will turn to unsafe and unregulated means to end pregnancies.

This reported decision is devastating for all people, but especially for the low income Black and Brown women who will be disproportionately impacted. I’ve stood for reproductive justice for my entire life and career and will continue to fight with a new resolve as we reckon with this injustice.

I encourage you during this time to support organizations doing the important work to ensure access to reproductive health services, like Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Midwest Access Coalition, and the Chicago Abortion Fund.

Sincerely,

Toni Preckwinkle
