John,
Because of a law passed more than 170 years ago, if Roe v. Wade is overturned, abortion will immediately become illegal in Wisconsin. Millions of Wisconsinites will be denied the right to autonomy over their own bodies.
While abortion can be a wrenching decision, I firmly believe that it’s a decision best made by women and their doctors — not the government.
The vast majority of Americans don’t want to see the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Polling demonstrates 7 in 10 Americans believe abortion should be legal in all or some circumstances. |
While I understand the personal, moral, and religious reasons for individuals to object to abortion, that simply doesn’t trump the constitutional rights to liberty guaranteed to all of us. I believe in personal liberty and I will always vote to protect those liberties.
We need to get government out of our bedrooms and out of our medical decisions. Last night's news that Roe v. Wade is in jeopardy only makes it clearer how critical it is that we return common sense to the legislature. That’s exactly why I’m running for the State Senate.
