this is a mental health check-in

Hey friend,

I’m sure you’re getting a lot of messages from every direction, but I wanted to make sure you’re doing okay and have the resources you need to carry on.

We’re living in a scary time, and we’ve all been running as fast as we can from one crisis to the next. It is okay to admit that you’re scared, that you’re tired of having to prove your humanity, that there are days when all you want to do is give up.

I’m not going to tell you how to process what you’re feeling – rage, hopelessness, fear, etc. – but I know what works for me.

Committing to a concrete action – whether it’s donating to pro-choice organizations, making calls, knocking on doors, or having conversations with family and friends – makes the issue more manageable.

You may not be able to single-handedly take on the entire anti-choice lobby, but you can contribute to local abortion funds, bake cookies for clinic escorts, or call your legislators to demand they protect our right to decide if, when, and with whom we want to have a family. There is a place for you in this fight, no matter what your strengths are.

I’ll let you in on a secret: the majority of Americans and Iowans are pro-choice. And when we all join together – even in the face of incredible odds – there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.

The key to getting through this is putting your time, talent, and treasure behind the people and programs on the frontlines.

Drink some water, get some sunlight, and take care of yourself – we need you in this fight.
