After decades of community disinvestment and infrastructure policies that have fueled the country’s growing inequality crisis, Reckoning, Repair, and Transformation are key to our society moving forward and building a world that serves all.

To make that future a reality, today, the PolicyLink Reckoning, Repair, and Transformation Initiative is proud to launch a new campaign: Infrastructure Justice!

After the March 2021 American Rescue Plan (ARPA) and the November 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), we have an opportunity to reframe the national discussion around infrastructure and build a bridge to an equitable recovery and a brighter future.

IIJA’s passage marks a once-in-a-generation moment in history as the largest infrastructure investment in 50 years and the largest investment in public transit and clean water in US history. It’s a $1.2 trillion bill to “renew current programs and provides financial support to infrastructure, transportation, clean energy, cybersecurity, and other initiatives.”

This is our moment to ensure policies, practices, and investments govern for racial equity, repair the harm of past policies, and promote transformative outcomes. IIJA gives us a catalytic opportunity to lay the groundwork for a reckoning, repair, and transformation of the American landscape.

This is a moment to Build for the All. The bedrock of our nation is an unfulfilled promise of equity for all, for Black, Brown, and Indigenous people and for the nearly 100 million living below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. We now have the opportunity to transform every aspect of life from our environment to transportation to water justice. Together, we can pave the road to justice and collectively build a better fabric of society for all.

Stay tuned throughout May for videos from PolicyLink and our partners highlighting what transformation looks like and how we can build a better infrastructure and future for us all.

Our Infrastructure Justice as a Road to Reckoning, Repair, and Transformation campaign is supported by our partners at the Community Water Center, Partnership for Southern Equity, Community Water Center, the Ujamaa Claiborne Corridor Cultural Innovation District (CID), and the Communities First Fund.
