The news about Roe v. Wade from yesterday is astounding and horrifying. This isn't just an attack on anyone who can get pregnant, but an egregious attack on medical privacy and the right to make choices for our own bodies.

The right to an abortion has been the law of the land for almost 50 years. We must not go backwards.

Let me be clear: As Governor of Oregon, I will always defend reproductive rights. That is a promise.

As your Speaker, I made sure that access to reproductive health care is enshrined in our laws. And no matter what happens at the U.S. Supreme Court – abortion is, and always will be, legal in Oregon.

No matter what happens on the national stage.

No matter what far-right activists have to say.

I will protect reproductive rights.
