Join us May 5th at 5:30 ET for a free 45-minute webinar exploring our newly updated Being an American curriculum resource. The BRI team will explain how to teach American citizenship through primary source analysis, writing assignments, discussion prompts, and other activities found in the resource. We will also discuss the new ELL scaffolds created for the curriculum that will help students of all backgrounds understand what it means to be an American.
Recently, a federal judge struck down the federal mask mandate on planes and public transit that was created by the Center for Disease Control, a part of the executive branch. Outside of public health, these agencies make rules on topics ranging from agriculture to commerce to labor laws. This has led to questions around the efficacy and constitutionality of this form of governing. What do your students think?
Should executive agencies be able to make regulations on issues like mask mandates?
Student (and teacher) prizes will be awarded for the strongest argument on each side of the debate. Each student winner will also be entered for a chance to win a $1,000 grand prize. Students have until 5/12/22 to join the debate!
David Neil has wanted to be a teacher for as long as he can remember. “It’s a major part of my life,” says the BRI teacher council member. We are less than two weeks from the deadline for the MyImpact Challenge civics contest. Students have until May 16 to submit their applications for the chance to win up to $10,000 in prizes.
