John — I’m sure you’ve heard by now that the Supreme Court is on the brink of overturning Roe v. Wade and eliminating the right to choose. It’s important to note this is not yet an official ruling — but I know folks are angry and scared. If this ruling becomes official, it will be up to each individual state to determine whether women have the right to an abortion. Under our current law in Pennsylvania, abortion will remain legal until 24 weeks. But that could change very quickly. Soon, Republicans in Harrisburg will once again try to pass a near-total ban on abortion in Pennsylvania and send it to the next Governor’s desk — they’ve already said so in the last 24 hours. Our Democratic Governor’s veto pen is the only thing protecting the right to choose here in Pennsylvania. Those are the stakes, John. Whoever the next Governor is will determine the future of abortion access in Pennsylvania. Every single one of the nine Republican candidates will sign a bill restricting abortion. I will veto it. It’s time right now for all of us to get off the sidelines, get in the game, and fight like hell to defend reproductive rights.
