Friend,

To say I’m saddened and disgusted by last night’s news would be putting it lightly. The draft opinion by Justice Alito leaked by Politico outlining the intentions of 5 Supreme Court Justices to overturn Roe v. Wade is a nightmare for people and families across our state and across our country.

Like so many, I hoped and prayed this day would never come. While this decision is not yet final, my heart aches for the millions in our state and our country that are reeling from this devastating news. And to put it simply, I am reeling too.

The right to abortion is absolutely fundamental and should be inalienable. But yet again -- extremist conservatives in our courts, our congress, and our state legislatures have failed us. Americans have fought for generations to defend our right to control our bodies, to control our decision on if or when to start a family.

While this news is bleak, we CANNOT stop fighting. We have to let this power our fight to codify the right to abortion at the federal level. It’s more important than ever that we elect leaders who are ready to put everything on the line to get this through Congress. We can’t tolerate anything less.

No matter what happens, I want you to know that I stand with you, and I won’t stop fighting until we never have to fear losing control of our bodies again.
