Yesterday, we learned that the Supreme Court intends to strike down Roe v. Wade.

If this is true, many states with Republican-majority legislatures will move to immediately make abortion completely illegal, including in cases of rape and incest.

This unprecedented leak is a seismic warning to all of us. Democrats in power must take action to suspend the filibuster and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, legislation that would codify the right to an abortion on the federal level.

We codified Roe here in New York in 2019, and I know we can get it done in Washington. I’ll be joining demonstrations in defense of Roe and I urge you to do the same to put pressure on Congress to act.

And in the immediate, one of the best things we can do right now is to support individuals seeking abortions in states where the procedure will soon be illegal.

Abortion funds help ensure people access abortion care in states where access is limited and in peril.
