In light of the reported draft Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, KDP Chairwoman Vicki Hiatt released the following statement:

“If this report is true and the Supreme Court is set to overturn Roe v. Wade, it will deal a devastating blow to reproductive rights and Americans' fundamental freedom to make personal healthcare decisions that are best for them and their families.

"Kansas is set to be the first state in line to vote on reproductive freedom following this Supreme Court decision. On August 2, the constitutional amendment on the ballot will pave the way for a total ban on abortion – we must vote NO .

"Kansas Republicans want to get between a woman and her doctor, even in the case of rape, incest or medical complications — and putting the amendment on the August 2022 primary ballot is a way to play dirty politics and hide it from voters in the historically low-turnout election.

"Make no mistake: reproductive rights are on the ballot this summer and fall. The Kansas Democratic Party will do everything in our power to defend access to abortion and elect Democrats who will defend reproductive freedoms for all Kansans."
