Last night's leaked release of Supreme Court Justice Alito’s draft majority decision overturning Roe v. Wade is a clarifying moment for Americans.

If this decision becomes final it will end the constitutional right to reproductive freedom, including access to safe and legal abortions — with immediate implications for women in states that have already passed "trigger laws" outlawing abortion if Roe is overturned.

Alito’s draft demonstrates the Court's majority has no respect for the precedent of 'settled law' — despite their pledges to the contrary in their Senate confirmation hearings. And the same logic applied in this draft opinion can be applied to nullify our constitutional rights in other areas.

Our only protection against this extreme agenda is to move immediately to enact federal law codifying the rights laid out in Roe — and to get the votes to abolish the filibuster to do so.
