You don’t need me to tell you how urgent this is.

Last night, Justice Alito’s opinion draft on Roe v. Wade was leaked, and in it we found the likely coming decision of the Supreme Court to overturn a precedent that has been set for nearly 50 years.

Abortion rights are under attack.

If this leak is the final position of the Court, the issue of abortion and reproductive rights go back to the states. Here in Montana, Republicans are just two seats away from total control of our state, which would likely mean we would see a law passed mirroring the 6-week abortion bans popping up in Republican-controlled states like Texas and Oklahoma.

This is a five-alarm fire.

If abortion rights are struck down, Montana will become the only state in the entire Rocky Mountain North West where a woman can access an abortion and certain reproductive health care services. Abortion access will not be available in any of our neighboring states, as Idaho, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming all have “trigger” laws on the books – meaning abortion will be legally banned the moment the ruling comes down.

The ramifications of this decision by a right-wing, extremist court will set us down a dangerous path for ALL those whose rights are protected by the Supreme Court. Republicans, especially in our state legislature, will not stop at abortion, and they will not stop at women.

Control is the end goal, and we cannot let them get away with that.
