Friend,
Six years ago, we co-founded #VOTEPROCHOICE to keep abortion and reproductive healthcare services safe, accessible, affordable, and respectful for everyone.
On Monday, POLITICO published a draft decision from the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. Let us be clear: this DRAFT will not be final until the court officially rules, but it is now obvious that federal protections of abortion rights will very soon.
The consequences will be devastating, especially for people of color and young people in the 26 Republican-controlled states that will immediately restrict or outlaw abortion altogether.
So we must fight back with all our might - and here is our plan.
#VOTEPROCHOICE works to recruit, support, and elect prochoice candidates running at every level, and we empower voters to vote confidently for reproductive freedom all the way down the ballot with our National Voter Guide.
That’s where you come in: we urgently need you to pledge to #VOTEPROCHOICE to protect abortion access across the country.
We knew this was coming — and still, this moment is devastating.
For decades, the anti-choice right has invested massive resources in state legislatures and courthouses in preparation for this exact moment — and we left them unchecked.
Now that the end of Roe v. Wade is imminent, Republicans in Congress are gleefully planning even worse restrictions — a federal ban that would end abortion even in "blue" states like New York and California. This makes it even more urgent that we keep Democratic majorities in the U.S. Senate and House.
Friend, please join us in rising to the moment by pledging to #VOTEPROCHOICE this year - and every year until abortion rights are secure.
Thank you for your support,
Bob Fertik and Heidi L. Sieck
Co-founders of #VOTEPROCHOICE
p.s. if you get this message in time, please join rallies at your local courthouse, federal building, or town hall today, Tuesday, May 3, at 5 p.m. local time. As events are coming together on short notice, check social media, reach out to local political groups, and ask friends and neighbors for details of the events in your area. After today, we'll keep taking to the streets in larger and larger numbers with national and state allies, and we will keep taking action for abortion rights. Pledge now to take to the streets again if the right-wing justices on the Supreme Court move forward with the plan to overturn Roe and allow abortion bans.
