Folks —
Last night, a leaked draft opinion showed that the Supreme Court has issued a decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
As a woman and mother to a daughter, I’m outraged. It sickens me to think of my daughter growing up with fewer rights than I had at her age.
As a lifelong advocate of abortion rights and access, I’m ready to fight like hell against this barbaric decision. We have to build a strong Democratic coalition that protects abortion rights – beyond our slim majorities in the House and the Senate.
I've always been on the side of protecting abortion rights and my record shows it. We need to hold on to our House Majority to continue the push to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law. Will you make a contribution to my re-election campaign here in NV-03, a critical must-win seat for Democrats?
Let me make this next part very clear – the Supreme Court will not stop at abortion rights.
In this draft opinion in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade, Justice Alito brought into question landmark civil rights cases like Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage. It is abundantly clear from this draft text that this is only the beginning of the curtailing of our rights.
But you know what still gets me? It’s that even as the vast majority of Americans support the right to a safe abortion, Republican legislators are cheering at the prospect of overturning a law that’s supported so heavily by the people. It’s unsurprising and condemnable.
Let me also add that overturning Roe v. Wade will not stop abortion, it will only make safe abortions illegal. Getting an abortion is a deeply personal decision that must be left to a pregnant person and the consultation of their doctor, not a conservative majority on the Supreme Court.
I won’t sit back and watch one of the most solemn, protected rights be stripped away from people across our country. I’m committed to doing everything I can in Congress to protect abortion rights and encourage my colleagues in the Senate to codify Roe v. Wade into law immediately.
But this upcoming election raises a scary reality – Republicans are inches away from taking control of Congress. You can bet that they wouldn’t waste a breath on trying to protect abortion rights.
Look, the path for Republican victory in the House runs right through my district and I could use your support in winning re-election and keeping this district – and the House of Representatives – in Democratic hands.
I'm ready to fight to protect the rights that Roe v. Wade afforded us nearly 50 years ago. But we need a strong majority in Congress to speak out and legislate without question in defense of abortion rights. Will you chip in to my re-election in my battleground district that Republicans are desperate to flip?
The fight has only just begun.
With you,
Susie Lee
