Dear John,

As you’ve most likely seen, a draft majority Supreme Court opinion for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was leaked last night. The draft opinion sets out to overturn Roe v. Wade , and while it’s not official yet, it seems to confirm what we’ve known to be true: This Supreme Court is willing to place anti-abortion zealotry above the health, well-being, and bodily autonomy of people across the country.

John, I know I don’t have to tell you that this moment feels devastating, even for those of us who have long been preparing for it. We are thinking deeply of the people who could be disproportionately harmed by losing the legal right to abortion when the Court actually issues an opinion.

It’s time that we channel our fear and rage into action.

Right now, NIRH is fully committed to fighting city by city and state by state, for equitable access to abortion care. Together with our partner organizations, we’re going to continue to show up and fight like hell for abortion access and full reproductive freedom for everyone, everywhere.

And if you, friends, and family members want to make sure you’re a part of the fight:

-First and foremost, remember that abortion is still legal right now: we should be making sure that those who are scheduled for or scheduling abortion care should be reaching our to their providers and moving ahead to get the care they need.
-Make your voices heard: contact your local, state, and national legislators – whether they are friendly or not – and let them know that they need to take action to secure our rights and access to care. If you’re able, take part in one of the nationwide rallies scheduled today at 5 pm in town squares, in front of federal courthouses, and (for those in the DC area) the Supreme Court steps. Here in New York City, I hope to see you at the rally in Foley Square downtown (wear green!).
-Support local abortion funds [[link removed]] – now, more than ever, their work will be vital to ensure that everyone who needs care – especially those in red states – can continue to access it.

This is not the fight any of us wanted. But this is what NIRH was built for – to protect abortion access in every way possible, at the city and state levels. Thank you for being with us.

In solidarity,
Andrea Miller
