On this World Press Freedom Day, we celebrate and assess the democratic necessity of a free press worldwide. Poynter is proud to stand united with journalists and media professionals around the globe under this year’s theme “journalism under digital siege.”
We don’t have to scroll too deep in our DMs to see how today’s relentless surge of online misinformation stokes hate, endangers the integrity of journalism and diminishes the public’s trust in the media.
But, Trevor Noah said it best at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday.
“Every single one of you, whether you like it or not, is a bastion of democracy. And if you ever begin to doubt your responsibilities — how meaningful it is — look no further than what’s happening in Ukraine. Journalists are risking and even losing their lives to show the world what’s really happening.”
Thank you. We see you. We appreciate you. And we’re dedicated to ensuring you have the resources you need to keep bringing truth to light. Check out our latest opportunities below.

P.S. Speaking of the free press, Politico's Roe v. Wade scoop is unprecedented, and Poynter's Kelly McBride writes that it leaves some lingering ethics questions. This is helpful context for all other news organizations covering this story! |
