Late last night, a draft opinion by the U.S. Supreme Court revealed what we've long feared: a majority of unelected, conservative Justices are poised to overturn abortion rights.

This morning, abortion is still legal In Iowa. However, without Roe, the freedom to choose is in grave danger.

Let us be clear: Iowa Senate Democrats stand for the right to choose, and will always fight to protect abortion rights.

With the U.S. Supreme Court planning to overturn Roe and Republican politicians in Iowa pushing a constitutional amendment to outlaw abortion, it’s clear that abortion is on the ballot for the 2022 midterms. Governor Reynolds and Republican politicians are hellbent on removing the freedom to choose from Iowa’s constitution, and it’s never been more clear that we must focus on this issue in our state and local races.
