Dear John,
Last year, extreme weather events — such as wildfires, floods and storms — caused more than $145 billion worth of damage across the U.S. And as we look ahead, it’s likely to get worse.
Climate change doesn’t simply threaten the health and safety of our communities, it also threatens the stability of our economy. These climate change-fueled disasters strain the pillars of our economy causing essential supply chains to struggle, undermining the ability of businesses to meet targets. But individual investors don’t usually have all the information necessary to protect their assets from climate risks, or understand what companies are doing behind the scenes to help mitigate this issue.
Investors deserve to be aware of how companies are impacted by the financial hazards of climate change when making decisions about their portfolios. That’s why we’re asking you to support the Security and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) new rule to disclose climate-related financial risk information to all investors by making a public comment. Send your comment in now. [link removed]
Investors should have every tool possible made available to them to successfully plan their financial futures. By providing accurate information about companies' climate-related financial risks — in a reliable, consistent, and comparable manner — investors can make informed decisions that account for climate change’s evolving impact on our economy.
If adopted, this rule will put the U.S. one step closer to other countries, like the United Kingdom, who already require publicly-traded companies to disclose the threats that climate change poses to their business. Moreover, it will empower every investor to take better control of their financial future — allowing anyone to adapt their strategy in the face of our changing climate.
The U.S should give every investor a transparent look into risks companies face due to extreme weather and the strain it puts on our systems. Submit your public comment and help investors at every level make climate informed decisions! [link removed]
Thank you for your support,
Wes Rogerson
