Dear John,

Eid Mubarak! I hope yesterday was full of joy and blessings. For 30 years, the MPAC Media Awards ([link removed]) has recognized films, shows, media personalities, and executives who use their craft to create authentic portrayals of Muslims, promote social justice, and inspire action. We’re thrilled to announce two additional honorees to this year’s lineup: Amna Nawaz and Hisham Tawfiq.

PBS NewsHour’s Chief Correspondent Amna Nawaz ([link removed]) is an Emmy and Peabody award-winning journalist making her mark in broadcast news. Amna is the first Asian American and Muslim to moderate a United States presidential debate. Her “public service” mission is to bring news and stories right into people’s living rooms. Amna is a role model for people of color and women who want to enter broadcast journalism.

Hisham Tawfiq ([link removed]) stands at a unique intersection as an actor/activist. As an actor, he is most notably known for NBC’s The Blacklist. Hisham was a former platoon leader in the Marine Corps, has served 20 years as an NYC firefighter, and was a first responder on 9/11. As a proud Muslim, he serves as chairperson of the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood in Harlem, which is considered the oldest African American mosque in America.
RSVP NOW ([link removed])
Amna and Hisham join our stellar lineup which includes Americanish, I'll Meet You There, Mira, Royal Detective, United States of Al, and We Are Lady Parts. Learn more about all our honorees. ([link removed]) Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming weeks!

We hope you can join us on Sunday, June 26th. Due to COVID precautions, this year’s Media Awards will be live-streamed. Please RSVP ([link removed]) to get a link to watch the show.

In peace,

Sue Obeidi
