If you haven't heard, last night news broke confirming our worst fears:
the Supreme Court is prepared to end the constitutional right to abortion by overturning Roe v. Wade.
We, like so many people around the country, are horrified and upset. Before we go on,
we must stress: Abortion is still legal in the United States.
The news came because a draft of the majority opinion in
Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization was leaked to the press.
This opinion is a draft. It could still change, and even if it doesn't, it won't have the force of law until after the Supreme Court releases it officially.
So, what does this all mean? If this opinion is released without changes, it would not only uphold Mississippi's 15-week ban, it would explicitly overturn
Roe v. Wade and
Planned Parenthood v. Casey — ending the constitutional right to abortion in the United States.
This means state laws would govern abortion rights and access.
You can look up the current state of abortion access in your state here.
We don't know what the Supreme Court will do next, or when it will issue its final opinion. But we do know that
people will be gathering at federal courthouses all across the country at 5 p.m. local time today to make clear that 80% of Americans think abortion should be legal. We're gathering to show that the court loses its legitimacy when it takes away people's rights. We're gathering to say "Bans Off Our Bodies."
You can also make sure you're getting the latest updates and opportunities to take action during this unprecedented time by texting COURT to 22422.*
Planned Parenthood health centers are open and will continue to provide care, and we'll keep fighting to ensure you have the health care access you deserve. If you need an abortion, visit

We're all going through a range of emotions right now. Whatever you're feeling, even if you're just numb, your feelings are valid. Take a deep breath, feel them, and then get ready to fight back. It will take all of us together to protect access to safe, legal abortion in the weeks and years ahead.
We've been through many crises before, and we find that leaning on each other makes fighting these long, hard fights possible. So, please, find community and care where you can.
In solidarity,
Planned Parenthood
