Dear John, We are rejoicing with you at reports indicating that the Supreme Court may soon overturn Roe v. Wade. While the draft that has been leaked to the public is not the final opinion of the court, it is a strong indication that after almost fifty years, this cancerous ruling may soon be excised and our nation may begin to heal. The demise of Roe v. Wade is not the end, but the beginning. After fifty years of destructive partisan conflict, it is an opportunity to show each woman and each child that we value them. It is an opportunity to create a nation where abortion is unthinkable. At Minnesota Family Council, we will work to make this a reality in Minnesota - we are well on our way. When this decision is finally handed down, the real work of pro-life organizations across the country will begin. As we have been doing for years, we will work to protect women and children in Minnesota from abortion at the legislature, in the courts, and through elections. We would like to close this statement with the words of Mississippi Solicitor General Scott Stewart, in his argument before the court in the Dobbs case: “Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey haunt our country. They have no basis in the Constitution. They have no home in our history or traditions. They've damaged the democratic process. They've poisoned the law. They've choked off compromise. For 50 years, they've kept this Court at the center of a political battle that it can never resolve. And 50 years on, they stand alone. Nowhere else does this Court recognize a right to end a human life…That is not the world the Constitution promises. The Constitution places its trust in the people. On hard issue after hard issue, the people make this country work. Abortion is a hard issue. It demands the best from all of us, not a judgment by just a few of us. When an issue affects everyone and when the Constitution does not take sides on it, it belongs to the people. Roe and Casey have failed, but the people, if given the chance, will succeed.” In a post-Roe nation, your support in Minnesota is more crucial than ever.
