Hey Jack, there was a lot going on last weekend, so you may have missed that Daily Kos has launched a Banned Book Club!
Book club members will hear directly from authors being targeted by right-wing extremists, engage in deep dives on banned books, and advocate for writers, public libraries, and frontline communities. We'll pushback against fascism while meeting new people, and reading incredible works of art.
We'll be discussing the first book — All Boys Aren't Blue: A Memoir-Manifesto by George M. Johnson — in the coming week, so sign up today!

P.S. Read more about the Daily Kos Banned Book Club below!
Jack, the Republican effort to ban (if not burn) books from appearing in both public school classrooms and public libraries continues to grow.
Conservative dollars are trickling down into these seemingly local school board-led efforts, and many people are falling for conservative hysteria. We’ve seen elected officials threaten to withhold public library funding if they don’t take certain books off the shelves. We’ve seen public librarians threatened with misdemeanor charges over children’s book events. We’ve seen folks suggest that parents need to give consent in order for young people to get a hold of LGBTQ+ books.

For some, books—especially free books, in accessible spaces—are a refuge away from families and communities that don't deserve us. For others, a way to meet new people, enjoy new places, and learn new skills. Whether a lifeline or entertainment, books are critical for many.
With all of this in mind, Daily Kos is launching a Banned Book Club!
Reading communities have long been successful at Daily Kos. We're building on the tradition by diving into newer titles by marginalized writers alive today, and opening space for people to share their honest thoughts—what worked in the book and what didn’t? What helped you grow or expand your perspective? What do you wish were different?
Every few weeks, we'll share interviews with authors, engage in deep dives on banned books, and advocate for authors, public libraries, and frontline communities. We'll email you each time a new book is chosen or when there is an action to take. Feel free to borrow the book from your local library, buy it from your local bookstore, or download an audio version of the book! However you like to read, the Daily Kos Banned Book Club welcomes you!
