Earlier this month, the House passed a 10-year reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, a transparent form of corporate welfare that congressional leaders in the two major parties love.

To give the Senate more time to pass it, Congress just tacked a short-term extension of the bank on to government funding bill that will keep the bank operating until December 20.

What is the Export-Import Bank?

The bank, often nicknamed “Boeing’s bank,” is a federal credit agency that helps finance purchases by foreign buyers of U.S. products—most often the products of large, well-connected corporations that don’t need any help, but that can afford the lobbyists and campaign donations necessary to get their corporate welfare reauthorized. U.S. taxpayers assume the financial risk for these federally backed loans while a few well-connected corporations pocket the profits.

Once again, you’re being forced to use your tax dollars to support corporate welfare—and both parties are behind it.
