| Dear Friend, The Supreme Court has voted to fully overturn Roe v. Wade and end the constitutional right to abortion, according to a leaked copy of the opinion.(1) The leaked decision is not final and will not have the force of law until it is officially announced by the Court, but that will likely happen within the next 4-6 weeks. Then, as many as 26 states are set to ban abortion, many with no exceptions for rape or incest.(2) And anti-abortion groups are already preparing to pass a nationwide abortion ban, should Republicans win control of the House and Senate. We must fight on every front to restore this basic right and help the tens of millions living in states facing a future without legal abortion. California will have a special role in helping meet the massive surge in need for abortion care from those living in states where abortion will be banned. In addition, we will partner with allies nationwide to minimize the damage of this horrific decision and fight back with nationwide legislation restoring the right to abortion in all 50 states.
