John,

If the reporting is accurate, the right-wing majority on the Supreme Court is about to throw out Roe v. Wade and callously eliminate women's constitutional right to safe and legal abortion access. The effect will be devastating for women everywhere, jeopardizing the health and lives of countless women who will be forced into the shadows as they seek to make their own decisions about their body and their health care. This decision is dangerous and ruthless.

We must also recognize that this decision is a result of the work of Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and their allies. The Republicans' hypocritical rejection of President Obama's Supreme Court nominee in 2016, followed by their forceful confirmation of multiple far-right justices, brought us to this point. The outcomes of our elections matter, and it's up to all of us to make sure voters remember who is ultimately responsible for this shameful decision come November.

In the meantime, the Senate must pass the Women's Health Protection Act to codify Roe v. Wade's protections into law. I was proud to cosponsor that bill and help pass it in the House. Now, it is time for the Senate to make an exception to the filibuster to pass this critical legislation. There is no excuse for their failure to act.

Finally, it's important to reaffirm for women everywhere that Roe v. Wade is still the law of the land at the moment. This is a draft decision, and no one should be deterred from seeking health care at this time.

As we all grapple with this looming decision, we must come together and recommit to the fight for reproductive rights. I am ready for that fight, and I hope you'll join me.

Mike
