John,
The Supreme Court appears to be correcting its error of dehumanizing a segment of our population for the second time in U.S. history.
While tonight's Politico story leaking news that the Court will overturn Roe v. Wade is unprecedented, the decision to overturn Roe and send abortion back to the states was expected.
Neither women nor any other American voted on abortion. The legalization of abortion was mandated by an all-male Supreme Court in 1973...and in 2022 is supported by those who are still following the science from 1973.
The unprecedented leak appears to be an attempt to sway the Court--a dark day for democracy. But when the Supreme Court announces the overturning of Roe, 40 Days for Life will be ready. We have been preparing for this moment for years. As we work alongside pregnancy resource centers at the grassroots level, no network of pro-life organizations is better equipped to change hearts and minds; close abortion facilities in blue states; and offer alternatives to abortion than our 40-day campaigns and 365-day campaigns in 1,000 cities.
This is an exciting time in America--and one that will set the tone for the world--but it is also when the real work begins. For months, mayors and governors have declared their cities and states as "Abortion Safe Havens" once Roe is overturned. Politically, it will be nearly impossible to make abortion illegal in these states. But 45% of the 103 U.S. abortion facilities to close following a 40 Days for Life campaign were in states where abortion will remain legal. With God, we can completely end abortion in America.
When this Supreme Court decision is finalized, the battle for what is truly at stake will be front and center: the ultimate battle of hearts, minds, and souls who feel their only option is to have an abortion or work in the abortion industry.
We are ready to get to work in a post-Roe America and lead the world to respect the most vulnerable and beautiful among us.
I look forward to continuing to labor alongside you in the Lord's harvest--this epic struggle for life.
For life,
