Friends,
We've just learned that the Supreme Court has privately voted to overturn Roe v. Wade after nearly 50 years of precedence, according to a leaked draft opinion.
We knew this day might come, but that doesn't make the news any less infuriating or devastating.
Here's what we do know: Chicago will not take this lying down. And Mayor Lightfoot is going to fight like hell to ensure that anyone who needs access to legal and safe abortion care, can find it here in Chicago.
While abortion rights have been firmly enshrined in Illinois law since 2019, it's estimated as many as half of all states — including many of Illinois' neighbors — will choose to outlaw or severely restrict abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned. With more restrictions in neighboring states, we can expect an increase in the number of people who come to Chicago for abortion care.
Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot will take every step necessary to ensure that anyone who travels to our city for abortion care, receives the care they need. Help her continue our fight for reproductive rights by pitching in today >>
In solidarity,
