Our democracy is under attack. It's not just foreign interference in our elections: Politicians here in America are attacking our right to vote. Politicians are trying to pick their voters instead of voters picking their politicians. We can't let that happen.

We started Let America Vote to fight back against proposals across the country that make it harder for eligible voters to exercise their right to vote. And politicians who make it hard to vote must face political consequences.

How is the right to vote under attack?

After the 2010 election, state lawmakers nationwide started introducing hundreds of harsh measures making it harder to vote at a much faster pace than they had been. Strict photo ID requirements, slashing early voting opportunities, and registration restrictions were on the rise.

In 2013, the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, allowing the GOP to pass even more ultra-restrictive voting laws.

Overall, 25 states have put in place new restrictions since 2010.

14 states have more restrictive voter ID laws in place, 13 have laws making it harder for citizens to register, eight cut back on early voting opportunities, and three made it harder to restore voting rights for people with past criminal convictions.

This systematic disenfranchisement has helped the GOP shut out the voices of their opposition, locking Republicans into their seats, regardless of what the voters say.

What is Let America Vote doing to fight back?

In 2018, Let America Vote helped elect 100 leaders committed to protecting and advancing voting rights, making good on our promise to create political consequences for politicians who try to suppress the vote. In 2019, we helped win back Virginia's state legislature. And we're going to expand our efforts in 2020.

We have several states where we're establishing operations to organize voting-rights supporters and push legislative efforts.

We are targeting A LOT of elections in 2020, and the only way we can be successful is if everybody pitches in.
