Introducing Groundwork Project’s FIRST Plains State Partner!
Last month Groundwork expanded its footprint and put more resources behind community organizers, advocates, and activists working year-round in Mississippi, Alabama and West Virginia.
But we aren’t stopping there!
Groundwork Project is so proud and excited to announce that we are adding another state to our roster! We’re partnering with trusted local leaders and organizations in a largely-rural state with the lowest voter turnout in the US (or as we like to describe it: the most potential to expand the vote!) – Oklahoma . Keep reading to find out why we chose this great state!

We’re getting ready to bring our grant program to Oklahoma in the next few months and start investing in hyperlocal organizing on the ground, but we need your help to make it all happen.
We’re hoping to raise another $40,000 in the next 72 hours to kick things off right! Can you chip in so we can begin investing in organizers on the ground in our new partner state? [[link removed]]
Yes, I'm in! [[link removed]]
Just this year, Oklahoma made headlines for being the first state in the country to pass a near-total ban on abortion . The state legislature routinely makes national news for being amongst the most conservative in the nation.
➡️ Public education has been systemically defunded by conservative state leaders for years, making Oklahoma the testing ground for anti-CRT and other classroom censorship efforts we see on the news
➡️ High incarceration rates, the highest in the United States , continue to be overlooked by state officials – with an imprisonment rate 78% higher than the national average
➡️ And political leadership remains a deep shade of red, often alongside allegations of cronyism and corruption
Despite so many challenges, like in all our partner states, we have found a progressive organizing community that is growing, innovating, and expanding – despite the odds. And we see a clear opportunity on the ground to support organizations and leaders writing a new political story for Oklahoma’s future.
Team, our grant program lets us put our mission of supporting hyperlocal organizing into action. Donate now so we can take the leap! [[link removed]]
> Founded by Joe Kennedy III, Groundwork Project invests in year-round, local community organizing in places Democrats have gotten used to writing off. With a focus on Appalachia, the Deep South, and the Plains, we support local advocates and activists working to build durable political infrastructure and secure power for those historically excluded.
