When I lost in 2020, I said that my race hadn’t been about Amy McGrath, or even about Mitch McConnell — it was about putting our country first.
Right now, as we embark on an urgent mission to save our democracy from Donald Trump’s subversions, that sentiment is truer than ever.
This isn’t about me. And frankly, it isn’t even about Donald Trump — no matter how much he wants it to be. The American SOS Project is about the fundamental values that define this country. It’s about protecting the premise that it’s the American people who decide on our leadership, not some egomaniacal wannabe-autocrat.
The fact is, no one should accept the inevitability of a second term of Trump. So long as we keep our energy and optimism — and put everything we’ve got into the next six months before the 2022 elections — we have the power to stop Trump’s plans in their tracks and protect American democracy.
Right now, I hope you’ll chip in whatever you can to kickstart this brand-new organization — we’ve got big plans to take on Trump and his handpicked, election-denying secretary of state candidates, but it’ll take big resources to put them into action.
Thank you so much for anything you’re able to give to this critical movement. More to come — but in the meantime, stay hopeful. Together, we can once again put people over politics and, as I like to say, U.S. over B.S.
