This is outrageous, friend. A recent study suggests that exposure to phthalates in childhood could be linked to a roughly 20% higher risk of cancer among children!
This isn’t much of a surprise – the evidence against phthalates has been mounting for years. Previous studies have linked phthalates to changes in hormone levels, reduced sperm count and motility, birth defects and even neurological and behavioral disorders in children.
It can be challenging to avoid these dangerous chemicals. They’re used in a wide variety of everyday consumer products, including plastic food and beverage containers, perfume, nail polish and toys. About 75% of U.S. adults have detectable levels of phthalates in their urine.

But don’t despair, friend. EWG has been leading this fight for years, consistently pressing the FDA to ban the use of phthalates in food packaging and urging further regulatory action to get phthalates out of cosmetics. But we need your help to hold the chemical industry accountable.
Take our quick survey, below, to go on the record and help us get phthalates out of our products.
