World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is May 14, 2022. This year’s campaign highlights the impact of light pollution on migratory birds with the theme “Dim the Lights for Birds at Night.” Join us on May 5 for a WMBD virtual workshop led by Greg Butcher, ASNV Vice-President and Migratory Species Coordinator for U.S. Forest Service International Programs.

** Birding By Ear

Did you know you don’t even need binoculars to explore the big world of birds? Often it is faster and easier to identify a bird by its song – if you know how to bird by ear. In this program, Colt Gregory will explain the many benefits of birding by ear and introduce some of the most common birds by their songs and calls. He will also share resources and apps to help you practice and improve your birding by ear skills.

** Madagascar: Exploring a Biodiversity Hotspot through its Lemurs and Birds
------------------------------------------------------------

In 2018, mother-daughter scientist team Libby Lyons and Sally Bornbusch explored many regions of Madagascar, from its spiny forests in the southwest, the high plateaus in the country’s center, and the mountainous forests of the northeast. Based on their first-hand experience with Madagascar as a biodiversity hotspot, they will focus on its famous lemurs, a group of primates found only in Madagascar, and its endemic birds.

ASNV will hold its first in-person Annual Meeting and Audubon Afternoon in 2 years! We will elect board members and directors during a brief annual meeting, then enjoy a presentation starring 4 live native owls.
