Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good Afternoon,

This week, I was back in Washington, D.C. for a series of votes in the U.S. House of Representatives! I had a wonderful time meeting with Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls to discuss the crisis at our southern border and other issues that are affecting the city of Yuma.

I also met with the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Arizona to discuss small business taxes, the regulation of insurance, and other issues that affect their industry!

I had a fantastic time at Honeywell's 2022 DEFIANT X Supplier Conference Reception learning more about the DEFIANT X, the next generation of Army aircraft. This project will bring many jobs and important investments to Arizona!

House Energy and Commerce Committee

In the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I questioned President Biden’s Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, about what steps the Biden Administration is taking to make battery storage facilities safer and suggested, through a question, that Arizona would be a great location for a Hydrogen Energy Hub. I also called out the Biden Administration for their war on American energy.

Lesko Introduces Bill to Tackle Drug Crisis Using Title 42

Image

Our southern border is being overrun with fentanyl and other illicit drugs that are killing Americans. This is a public health emergency! Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA-02) and I introduced a bill to combat the overdose epidemic plaguing our nation using Title 42.

Lesko Introduces Bill to Ban "X" Gender Designation in Travel Documents

Image

Instead of securing our border, the Biden Administration is focusing on allowing people to select “X” as their gender instead of male or female on their U.S. passports and in TSA PreCheck Applications. I introduced the Traditional Screening Application Act and the Traditional Passport Act to stop this nonsense and strengthen national security!

GET THE FACTS: The U.S. Economy Shrinks by 1.4 Percent

As you may have heard, our nation’s economy shrank by 1.4 percent in the first quarter of 2022. This is our economy’s worst quarter in two years. The numbers don’t lie. President Biden and the Democrats’ reckless spending is stifling our nation’s economic growth and prosperity. Under President Biden’s failed economic policies, inflation has soared to 8.5 percent, our economy is shrinking, and America could be heading towards a recession.

Monica from our office attended the grand opening of Consonus Pharmacy in Glendale, Arizona.

Casework Highlight

A constituent had an issue with the IRS not processing his deceased father’s final tax return due to alleged identity issues. We reached out to the IRS and were able to work out a pathway to verification for the constituent that allowed his father’s tax return to be completed and then close out his estate.

Encouraging Story

I am pleased to share this story about an 8th grader from the Valley raising money for the Salvation Army for his 8th grade capstone project. Diego Salas told his teacher that he wanted to be a “selfless hero” and chose the Salvation Army as the recipient of the money he raised. Diego ended up raising over $600 for the Salvation Army! It is great to see our youth stepping up to make an impact in our community.
