Comrades! A very happy May Day weekend to you all. We've got a bunch of updates for you!
Here are some of the exciting efforts we're currently engaged in. You can become involved with any of them by attending any meeting or joining the chapter's slack:
- Labor Committee has a training opportunity on workplace organizing, Tuesdays 6-8 pm on Zoom through June 14. Sign up here by this Sunday! (labor)
- Also, look for more info soon on our new Labor reading group, and opportunities to get out and support local Starbucks workers!
- We are sending a delegation to congratulate Starbucks workers in Superior on their union victory! Check out #comm-labor on Slack to coordinate with the caravan, who will be visiting the Superior store between 1-2pm on Saturday.
- Our Ecosocialist Committee has won a huge victory this week with Xcel Energy pledging to close the state's dirtiest coal plant no later than 2031 (eco-soc)
From the Electoral Committee: Active (right now!) State House campaigns we are supporting: Elisabeth Epps & Javier Mabrey. Find us on Slack in #comm-electoral. (electoral)

The Housing Justice Committee is working with Housekeys Action Network Denver and Mutual Aid Monday to plan a whole week of events against the criminalization of homelessness May 8th-14th to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the urban camping ban. Denver's Decade Of Doom: 10 Years Too Many. (housing justice)
The NEWR campaign needs volunteers! Starting this weekend we're holding weekly phonebanks in-person Sundays @ 2-4pm in the SEIU union hall (2525 W. Alameda Ave.) and online every Wednesday night @ 6 pm. No experience needed! We also need people to help make content for social media, seek endorsements from other organizations, canvass the city, reach out to at-risk tenants, and do research. Sign up here or email [email protected]!
The newly-revived Mutual Aid Working Group is running a community resource fair for the unhoused with the Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence at The Center On Colfax this Sunday, May 1st @ 9am-4pm.
- The Palestine Working Group wants you to join in several community events in support of Palestinian liberation.
- The Abolition working group hosts city council watch parties every Monday via discord
- Our book club is discussing Miriame Kaba's We Do This 'Til We Free Us. A few copies are still available. The next discussion is on May 1st @7pm. Do not worry if you missed the first couple meetings, we would love to have you at any you can attend!
- This Mother’s Day, the DSA abolition working group is fundraising in support of Colorado Freedom Fund’s annual Mother’s Day Bailout. The funds will pay for release of mothers who have spent extended time behind bars awaiting trial and Black and trans caregivers of all genders. We are holding a tabling event at Cheesman Park on Saturday, May 7th, from 10am-1pm at the fountain just West of the pavilion. Please donate today!
- Please reach out to the abolition working group on Slack or at [email protected] if you’re interested in working with us!

And last but not least, socialists simply must celebrate the workers of the world on May Day! CPUSA is holding a May Day BBQ fest Sunday, and DSA is cordially invited! Sunday, 5/1, 5pm onward. They'll have food and drink, and all are welcome at 3551 Brighton Blvd, Denver, CO 80216.
You can get involved with these various efforts by joining the Slack (here's how to do that!) - or attending any meeting on our events calendar, which are open to all regardless of dues.

In solidarity 🌹

This text is important too, it's just quiet and at the bottom. The Democratic Socialists of America is 100% member-funded, and the Denver chapter is no exception. If you like the work we're doing, please consider donating directly to the chapter so we have the financial means to keep doing it! While we receive quarterly dues shares from National, your direct donation to Denver DSA gets money into organizers’ hands quicker. Give us socialist cash to beat capitalist trash! https://denverdsa.org/donate
P.S. Ready to fight to improve the material conditions of our community? Not sure what DDSA is doing or what campaigns are happening? Check out http://bit.ly/DDSA-running-info for up to date information on actions like this one and our ongoing campaigns.
