You know Joe Manchin. Do you know Kurt Schrader?

This week, we endorsed his opponent in a nationally-watched May 17 congressional primary, and PCCC members around the nation have already chipped in thousands. Here’s why we did it.

ABC NEWS reports:

To the extent that Democratic activists know Schrader’s name, it’s mainly been for his opposition to progressive priorities that Biden actually supports. He opposed a $15 minimum wage and a proposal to contain prescription drug prices, and he initially voted against last year’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill.

All of that earned Schrader a primary challenger in Jamie McLeod-Skinner, who has been endorsed by four county Democratic parties, a range of progressive groups and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. In an interview last week…McLeod-Skinner called Schrader 'the Joe Manchin of Oregon' and warned that he would lose the general election because the Democratic base has soured on him.

Please donate to Jamie McLeod-Skinner's campaign so we can save the House majority and replace a corporate Dem with a bold progressive. Early voting has already started. Chip in here.

Something very weird happened last weekend.

President Biden endorsed Schrader, the guy who opposes Biden at every critical turn. We believe Biden did this because he still wants Schrader’s vote for pending economic legislation, but that he would be overjoyed if a dud Democrat was replaced by a vibrant progressive.

But still, ABC News called the endorsement "strange in terms of both timing and strategy" and said the endorsement "reopens intraparty wounds." Nevertheless, we persist.

Jamie is a no-nonsense engineer, attorney, and former union member. Her mom drove a school bus, taught special ed, and picked fruit in the summers. She hasn’t forgotten her roots.

Jamie is drawing contrasts with Schrader on Medicare drug price negotiation, the Build Back Better climate provisions, holding corporations accountable, student debt relief, banning congressional stock trading, raising the minimum wage, and union power.

Kurt Schrader opposes these things. Heck, he did not even support impeaching Trump for Jan. 6.

As ABC News reports, Schrader "enraged colleagues shortly after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol when he likened the swift impeachment push to an attempted 'lynching' of then-President Donald Trump."

Donate here to Jamie McLeod-Skinner's campaign. The election is May 17, and early voting has started!

Thanks for being a bold progressive.
