Hey Swing Left,
Fact: The Senate almost shut down our government over border wall funding last Thursday.
Fact: While Senate Republicans fought for the wall, they let over 100 bills that would actually help Americans, like gun violence prevention and climate change mitigation, die on Mitch McConnell’s desk.
Fact: Senate Republicans are ignoring the evidence against Trump gathered by the House in the impeachment hearings, and are rushing to their donors to defend him.
The Senate should work for the American people, not the president. So our strategy team has identified the 8 most vulnerable Republican Senators, and we’re raising money to fund their future Democratic challengers. Help flip the Senate and finally dethrone Mitch McConnell—donate to the Senate Fund today. Every dollar goes directly to our 8 future nominees.
The fight for the Senate is still shaping up, but here’s what we can say right now—it’s an offensive game against the GOP. Let’s take a deep-dive into our 4 most flippable seats:
- Thom Tillis, North Carolina: Tillis is skating on thin ice in North Carolina. His approval rating is only 22% in the state and a chilly 40% among North Carolina Republicans.* Trump won the state by less than 4 points in 2016, and as his approval rating plummets, Tillis gets more vulnerable.
- Martha McSally, Arizona: McSally lost her race for Senate in 2018 to Kyrsten Sinema, but was appointed to fill John McCain’s seat after he passed. Now, she’s running against Mark Kelly, and polls show they are virtually tied.
- Susan Collins, Maine: Collins is the second most unpopular senator behind Mitch McConnell, according to FiveThirtyEight, and has a 50% disapproval rating among Maine voters.** She was a key vote to confirm Kavanaugh to a lifetime Supreme Court seat.
- Cory Gardner, Colorado: Gardner is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a “moderate” running to “fight back the radical, liberal hoard.” Less than 40% of Colorado voters support Gardner.***
Republicans are gearing up for these tough re-election battles by fundraising early for vulnerable incumbents. Trump is rewarding senators who oppose impeachment with financial support, in a gross bid to buy loyalty and protect a Republican majority.
Republicans are playing dirty, but we’re playing smart. Just like in 2018 and again in Virginia, we’re pooling early money to support the future Democratic challengers in each of these races. They’ll get your dollars right when they need it most: After they win their primaries and head into the general.
If you want to see the life-saving legislation passed by the Democratic House signed into law, then help flip the Senate. Donate to the Senate Fund today, and your money will go directly to the 8 future candidates in the most flippable Senate races.
Thanks,
Ethan, Matt, Catherine, Michelle, and the Swing Left Team
