It’s hard to believe it, but we’re already well into our second year of a Democratic majority in Congress and a Democratic President in the White House. And it’s incredible how much things have changed in that short amount of time.
When Donald Trump was President and Republicans controlled the Senate, it was like pulling teeth to try to get things done. True, we had a few moments of bipartisanship, like when the Senate passed my historic National Parks bill. But more often than not we were fighting to prevent things like repealing the Affordable Care Act. It was a hard time for so many Virginians who sent me to the Senate to make meaningful change.
Since Democrats took the majority, we’ve made real progress to combat the pandemic and get our economy back on track. But the truth is, our Senate majority is at risk. The experts are saying it, the polls are showing it, and it’s on us to make sure we hang on this November.
We’ve done a lot, and we have so much more to do. But our work cannot happen, and will not happen, if Republicans control the Senate. Chip in $5 today. [link removed]]
We got through a huge, once in a generation investment in our infrastructure. We’ve made critical investments in our cyber security. We’ve expanded access to broadband internet. We’ve helped put more Virginians and more Americans back to work.
I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished because I know it’s what you sent me to the Senate to do. But I’m not nearly done.
Right now I’m working on a China competition bill that will bring more manufacturing jobs to Virginia and ease our supply chain issues. I’m pushing to cap insulin copay costs — my daughter is a type-1 diabetic, so this one is really personal to me. And we still need to make more investments in the fight to combat climate change.
