John, Last week, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene took the stand to testify under oath regarding her role in the January 6th insurrection. Throughout the hearing, Greene repeatedly claimed that she couldn’t recall or remember her role in the events before, during, and after the insurrection. These evasive answers, easily contested with written and video evidence and past social media posts, show that she cannot effectively refute the evidence showing that she helped facilitate the insurrection. But this is hardly the end of the fight. Just this week, it was revealed that Greene texted Mark Meadows, Trump’s Chief of Staff, urging the former president to “call for [martial] law” in an effort to stay in power. This dangerous request–which she claimed at the hearing not to remember making–is all the more reason to ensure that Representative Greene is held accountable for her actions. It must be taken into account by the judge in this case, and we have filed a motion before the court to supplement the record with this additional evidence. Greene is not the only lawmaker at fault for facilitating this violent insurrection. We are also representing voters in North Carolina and Arizona seeking to block Congressmen Madison Cawthorn, Paul Gosar, and Andy Biggs, as well as Arizona Secretary of State candidate Mark Finchem, from appearing on the ballot because they too are ineligible for office under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment. This is a fight for justice and accountability. It’s a fight to preserve our democracy in the face of insurrection. It’s a fight to defend our Constitution. We made history by forcing a Member of Congress to testify under oath about their role in the January 6 insurrection. And we’re not finished. Here are three things you can do right now to help us win: - Sign and share our 14point3 campaign petition. One of the best ways to build support for accountability is to demonstrate widespread popular support for accountability. This isn’t a partisan campaign. It isn’t about Democrats vs Republicans. It’s about people coming together and demanding that our elected officials uphold their oath to support and defend the Constitution. Once you’ve signed the petition, be sure to share it with your friends and families.
- Donate today to help us move these cases forward. Presenting legal challenges of this magnitude as a nonprofit organization requires a great deal of time, resources, and funding. Every little bit helps us continue this critical work.
- Have you donated in the past? Consider becoming a recurring donor. Recurring monthly donations provide us with a consistent source of support, from filing to the final verdict, and they provide us with the opportunity to pursue future legal action without delay. This is neither politics nor theater. These are serious cases, on behalf of courageous voters, which demonstrate that their United States representatives seeking re-election, having taken the oath to support the Constitution, then broke that oath and engaged in insurrection. We must do everything in our power to hold them accountable for attempting to overturn our democracy. In solidarity, Ron Fein Legal Director, Free Speech For People |
