John:
Did you hear? Rep. Ilhan Omar just introduced a HUGE housing bill in Congress that’s a direct result of People’s Action’s work to win a Homes Guarantee!
We’re picking up big momentum, but this fight is only beginning. The best thing you can do to help us secure a real right to housing in the United States is to donate now.
Here’s why a Homes Guarantee is so important: In 2019, a minimum wage worker cannot afford a two-bedroom apartment in any county in the United States. That’s an awful statistic. But here’s what that looks like in people’s lives:
Brandy Granados rented a property in Kansas City, Missouri with her 7-year-old son Jude. In the winter, Brandy’s heater exploded and her house filled with smoke and the smell of gas. They ran outside in the middle of the night and called the landlord. He responded that he was out of town and couldn’t do anything. Brandy called the codes department on her landlord, and the next month he decided not to renew her lease and evicted her. For five months, Brandy and Jude were homeless, living in Independence, MO, more than 90 minutes away from her graveyard shift job.
You can read many more stories like these at homesguarantee.com, but you probably already know someone who is struggling to pay the rent. That’s because we are in an affordable housing crisis in the richest nation on Earth--in which 8 million Americans spend more than half their incomes on rent and millions more are homeless. That’s insane.

Rep. Omar’s bill is a major piece of the big vision put forward by grassroots folks directly affected by the affordable housing crisis. It’s a major sign that when everyday people get together and fight for the things that could change their lives, we can make a difference. We are on a roll with the Homes Guarantee--can you chip in right now to help us keep it going?
This is the USA. We’re the richest country in the history of the world. You should have a right to a safe, accessible, sustainable home here. We can win that right together, if we fight for it.
Thank you for standing with us.
In solidarity,
