Friends,
Over the last two weeks, I've been hard at work sharing the news about how the bipartisan infrastructure law is helping us update Iowa's aging infrastructure, introducing legislation to protect telehealth services that so many Iowans rely on, working to fix our rail system and supply chains, and much more.
I have so many exciting updates to share about how I'm bringing your voice to Washington. To learn more, keep reading.
Modernizing Iowa's Infrastructure: A Conversation with Secretary Buttigieg
The bipartisan infrastructure law, which I proudly voted for late last year, is expected to invest more than $5 billion in Iowa to bring our infrastructure into the 21st century. This new law represents a wide range of investments for our state: from expanding internet access, repairing crumbling bridges and roads, reducing supply chain disruptions, and keeping our communities safe — all without raising taxes on middle-class Iowans. I had the honor of sitting down with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to discuss how this funding is transforming our communities while creating good-paying jobs. Check out a part of our conversation here.
Keeping Telehealth Available for Iowans
Expanded access to telehealth services has made it easier for Iowans to get the care that they need — and this is especially true for older Iowans and those living in rural areas. This week, I introduced bipartisan legislation to ensure that these critical telehealth services continue for two years after the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration ends. This way, Iowans can continue to utilize these important resources to stay safe and healthy from the comfort of their own homes.
Fixing Rail Delays and Supply Chains for Farmers
Right now, farmers across Iowa are experiencing delays in rail shipments impacting their ability to move grain and other essential products — with some delays reportedly lasting for weeks. Farmers, businesses, and the entire agricultural industry depend on our nation's rail system, and we cannot allow these delays to persist. That's why I sent a letter to the Surface Transportation Board requesting that the Board take swift action to address these delays, work to fix our broken supply chain, and ensure that we can once again relay on the rail system to transport essential goods.
