AEE Applauds Governor Sisolak for Executive Order to Strengthen Nevada's Clean Energy Leadership ([link removed] )

AEE applauded Governor Steve Sisolak for signing Executive Order 2019-22. The executive order directs state agencies to develop a strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the highest emitting sectors. It also seeks to better align existing agency efforts under the state’s clean energy and climate commitments, including newly increased renewable energy requirements and efforts to bolster in-state energy production and advanced energy deployment. “With this executive order, Gov. Sisolak has once again shown leadership in moving Nevada toward an advanced energy future,” said Sarah Steinberg, Policy Principal for Nevada at AEE. AEE Applauds Pennsylvania Senate for Passage of Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Bill ([link removed] )

AEE applauds the state Senate for passing SB 596, the Pennsylvania Clean Transportation Infrastructure Act. The vote was 43-6. The bipartisan bill sets a 2030 goal for electric vehicle (EV) deployment in the state that is at least 50% higher than current market forecasts, establishes a system for determining the charging infrastructure required to support those goals, and lays out a process for utility EV programs to be evaluated by the Public Utility Commission. Today, Pennsylvania is the seventh largest vehicle market in the nation. "The passage of Senate Bill 596 will catalyze growth across the state's electric vehicle supply chain and position all Pennsylvanians to benefit from the rapidly growing electric vehicle market," said Daniel Bloom, principal at AEE. "It is a comprehensive plan that will drive private investment in the Commonwealth, create new manufacturing and other jobs, and put downward pressure on the state’s electricity prices." How an Obscure Pricing Rule and Transmission Holdups Could Put Advanced Energy Resources on Ice ([link removed] )

There are a couple of major issues currently before FERC and Congress that will impact advanced energy resources in wholesale markets. One of them is a decision expected from FERC soon after it regains a quorum that threatens to force operators of renewable energy facilities to artificially jack up their prices in a way that leaves them uncompetitive. The other, on which FERC has launched a proceeding but is also within congressional purview, involves building the transmission that is needed to get low-cost renewable energy to consumers. Here, and in two new wholesale market briefs, we explore the implications of these two issues for advanced energy resources, especially large-scale renewable energy development.
