President Biden has set a new and more hopeful climate action agenda, and we are making progress. But honestly, we are still not doing nearly enough to end our dependence on planet-killing fossil fuels. Perhaps our greatest challenge is the fact that the fossil fuel industry still wields tremendous power over many members of Congress.

This moment requires us to simultaneously confront two truths: 1) without bold climate action, our national security and indeed the livability of our planet is in serious jeopardy from global warming; and 2) the nations of the world must stop buying Russian fossil energy products because these purchases are fueling Putin’s brutal war machine and threatening democracy everywhere.

I will share more of my thoughts on the geo-political, energy and climate impacts of Russia’s war on Ukraine soon, but today I’m writing to ask for your help.

I have dedicated my work in Congress to being a leader on climate and the environment. There is no greater champion for bold climate action, transformative investments in clean energy, and protection of our natural resources.

From my work on the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, to my chairmanship of the Water, Oceans and Wildlife Subcommittee, to being an original co-sponsor of the Green New Deal, I am continuously working to advance clean technologies, green infrastructure and jobs, other strategies that can mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis while making our country stronger, healthier and more secure.

I’m proud that my work has earned me the endorsements of the California Democratic Party (CDP), Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) Action Fund, League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, Sierra Club, Friends of the Earth Action, and Progressive Turnout Project (PTP) in this year’s election.
