Democracy is not a spectator sport. If you don't like what's going on, you can't sit on the sidelines. That's why I first ran for Newark Municipal Council in 1998 and that's why I'm running for president now -- to build the fair, just country we deserve.

We only have one shot to make Donald Trump a one-term president, John, and we absolutely cannot lose it. There's simply too much at stake -- affordable health care, criminal justice reform, environmental justice, and so much more that we hold dear. That's why the DNC's Democratic Unity Fund is so important.

The DNC is already utilizing the fund to build a strong ground game to hand over to the eventual Democratic presidential nominee the second the general election begins. The strength and success of that operation depends on you -- and I need you to join me in stepping off the sidelines today.

The Democratic Unity Fund is a unified effort paving the path to victory for whoever the Democratic nominee is -- from training organizers in key battleground states, to running a best-in-class data warehouse, and even doing critical opposition research on Donald Trump and his lackeys.

My conversations with people of every background have taught me this: Americans want empathetic solutions, with results they can see in their own communities -- and this administration is failing on both fronts. It is critical that we defeat this ineffective president and begin the process of healing our nation, but it's going to take me, you, and a strong DNC backing our future nominee to do that.
