Dear John,
As Iranian Americans know all too well, broad U.S. sanctions are punishing ordinary people across the globe. Today, NIAC and organizations from American diaspora communities as well as humanitarian relief and human rights groups issued an urgent demand for President Biden to address the inhumane impact of broad sanctions.
As reported by The Intercept [[link removed]] , we joined to send a letter detailing the impact of U.S. collective punishment policies on the people of Afghanistan, Cuba, Gaza, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, and Yemen. Together, we are calling on the Biden Administration to make good on its commitment to reform the U.S. sanctions regime, particularly amidst the ongoing global pandemic.

With so many of our friends and family harmed by the sanctions, through no fault of their own, it is vital that we continue to build new alliances and strengthen our political power. Our work doesn’t end here, though. We are going to keep up the pressure and educate policymakers on why sanctions have been so corrosive to the welfare and human rights of people in Iran and around the globe.
We are incredibly grateful to our coalition partners: Afghans for a Better Tomorrow, American Friends Service Committee, Oil for Venezuela, Women Cross DMZ, and Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation for working with us to craft this comprehensive letter.
We greatly appreciate your support and look forward to sharing more of our work in the days and weeks ahead.
Thank you,
Jamal Abdi
President, NIAC
P.S. We hope you will join us for a virtual panel Tuesday, May 24th at 4:00pm ET to explore the global impact of collective punishment, featuring voices from many of the organizations who led the letter. RSVP to attend the panel here > [[link removed]]
