This is BIG news, friend. The EPA intends to suspend all future uses of dacthal, a pesticide widely used on leafy greens, after its chief manufacturer failed to provide sufficient safety data addressing concerns about dacthal’s potential effect on thyroid function and fetal development. The decision comes after repeated attempts over nine years to get the manufacturer, agrochemical giant AMVAC, to provide scientific studies that prove dacthal does not harm human health. Instead of ensuring their product was safe, AMVAC spent the last nine years filing more than 20 requests for the EPA to remove these data requirements! EWG has been fighting for years to get dacthal out of popular foods like kale and broccoli. Now AMVAC has just 30 days to finally respond to the EPA’s request or the suspension will become a permanent ban. But you can be sure Big Ag is going to do everything they can to keep using dacthal. We need to be prepared to fight back. Can we count on you to help us fight to ban dacthal and other hazardous pesticides? We need 2,500 of our top supporters to complete our rapid response survey to help us formulate our plans. |
