I want to tell you about something called “call time.” Most members of Congress have to do it, and it goes like this:
Small room, no windows, two chairs, a table with papers stacked on top. Little to no distractions.
A staffer will dial a number and hand the phone to the member of Congress. Then they’ll dial a number on a second phone. The phone passes back and forth until a potential donor answers. Then they have a conversation about making a donation.
Candidates can do this for hours a day. You can imagine it’s not the most fun time.
Thankfully, we are getting more and more small-dollar donations in response to emails like this. That allows me to really focus on the work you want me doing: Ukraine, expanding voting rights, climate change, trying to revive Build Back Better from those who stopped it, and more.
A lot of my colleagues aren’t as lucky. But that means I have to ask people to chip in via email occasionally. Today is one of those days. Especially with our April fundraising deadline ending tomorrow at midnight.
Can I count on you to make a $3 contribution to support my re-election campaign before our April fundraising drive ends tomorrow at midnight? I would not ask if it were not so important.

It is never particularly easy asking people for money. Frankly, it’s the hardest part of the job. Especially when you have to run for re-election every two years. But I am thankful for the support of everyone who gives when they can. It means a lot.
