NCRC, Partner Groups Urge Federal Reserve To Require Deposit Insurance And Supervision For All Financial Institutions That Receive Master Accounts
The Federal Reserve Board should not open the door to its payment services for uninsured fintech firms, the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) and partner groups wrote in a comment letter. Instead, the Federal Reserve should require all financial institutions seeking direct access to the Fed’s central bank payment systems to obtain deposit insurance and to be subject to consolidated supervision. Waters’ Proposed Legislation Would Benefit Underbanked Communities

A recent report from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition found that while families and Main Street small businesses were desperate for financial support and counsel, America’s banks took advantage of the crisis to accelerate the pace of their already planned branch closures, escalating the formation rate of banking deserts...The NCRC also says that over the past five years, one-third of these closures were concentrated in low- to middle-income and minority neighborhoods. Harvard Creates Fund To Redress Its Ties To Slavery

Harvard University is committing $100 million to study and redress its ties to slavery, the university’s president announced Tuesday, and with that money will create an endowed “Legacy of Slavery Fund,” which will continue researching and memorializing that history, working with descendants of Black and Native American people enslaved at Harvard, as well as their broader communities. Senate Report Details 'Ongoing Mistreatment' Of Service Members And Their Families Living In Privatized Military Housing

Redesigning The Housing Market To Build An Architecture Of Equality

We invited innovators from across the country to submit inspiring ideas for redesigning a more equitable housing market. Participants included nonprofit and for-profit firm leaders, housing advocates, and entrepreneurs, who networked and provided peer feedback to one another.
