President Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Punishes Everyone, Including Students

From the story: Since taking office, Biden has forgiven loans of borrowers in four distinct groups: defrauded borrowers, public service workers, borrowers with a total and permanent disability, and certain borrowers with an income-driven repayment plan. Total forgiveness during the Biden administration currently stands at more than $20 billion. This latest round of forgiveness falls into the defrauded borrowers category, which includes debt cancellations for students who attended programs that had defrauded or mistreated them (Fortune). National Review: If you borrow money and sign a contract promising to pay it back, then you must pay it back, or you will suffer serious long-term financial consequences. Or at least, that’s the way it used to work until Democrats decided they could win a lot of votes by just waving a magic wand and declaring that people didn’t have to pay their student debt back (National Review). NBC: The president has faced pressure from Democratic lawmakers, liberal advocates and young voters to forgive some student debt. Total student debt topped $1.7 trillion last year and the pandemic has exacerbated the challenges (NBC).

Economy Contracts: GDP Drops 1.4 Percent

Financial Times: Gross domestic product dropped 1.4 percent on an annualized basis in the first three months of 2022, the US commerce department reported on Thursday, down significantly from the 6.9 percent rise recorded in the fourth quarter of 2021. That marks the first contraction of the economy since mid-2020, when Covid-19 lockdowns had curtailed activity (Financial Times). Jerry Bowyer: The easy part of coming off of low Covid baselines and catching up is over…  Growth low; inflation high, double-fail (Twitter). Wall Street Journal: The drop stemmed from a widening trade deficit. Imports to the U.S. surged and exports fell, dynamics reflecting pandemic-related supply-chain constraints. (Wall Street Journal).

Democrats Want to Raise Taxes: Schumer Says It’s “Only” Way to Right the Ship

From the story: Inflation is raging, Americans’ purchasing power is painfully diminished, and Chuck Schumer thinks the ‘only’ way to right the ship is to, um, confiscate more earnings from Americans and American businesses?  Higher taxes and increased spending are his party’s predictably knee-jerk solutions to nearly every problem, even when those policies are glaringly and cartoonishly wrong for the moment (Townhall). RNC Research: Senator Chuck Schumer claims the “only way” to reduce #Bidenflation is to raise taxes on Americans (Twitter).

Department of Education: Ovaries, Not Women, Produce Eggs

From a training video instructing K-12 teachers. Breitbart: The trans teacher in the video apparently identifies with he/him pronouns and goes by the name Sam Long. According to Long, a teacher in the classroom needs “to be a stickler for inclusive language in any conversation, and especially in the content that we teach” (Breitbart). Liz Wheeler: This isn’t happening, the left said. Not in public schools, the left said. Not from teachers, the left said. The left are liars & groomers. Get your kid out of public school (Twitter).

Homeland Security Secretary: Unaware if Terror Suspects Caught at Border Have Been Released Into Our Country

And Secretary Mayorkas wonders why Republicans question whether he’s doing his job. From the story: During his second day of testifying before Congress, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said he did not know if terror suspects caught illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border are still in custody or if they were released (Townhall). Congressman Jim Jordan’s questioning led to the revelation (Twitter).

Russian News Anchor on Prospects of Nuclear World War III: “We Will Go to Heaven, While They Will Simply Croak”

Daily Wire: On Wednesday night, the editor of the Russian state broadcaster RT blithely discussed the possibility that Russian President Vladimir Putin would initiate a nuclear war, telling viewers, “We will go to heaven, while they will simply croak.” Margarita Simonyan told her television audience her opinion of what might happen next in the Russia-Ukraine war: “Either we lose in Ukraine or the Third World War starts. I think World War Three is more realistic, knowing us, knowing our leader. … The most incredible outcome, that all this will end with a nuclear strike, seems more probable to me than the other course of events” (Daily Wire). Daily Mail: It comes after Russia successfully test-launched its latest nuclear missile – Sarmat 2 – last week, with Putin boasting it can strike targets anywhere on earth and cannot be stopped by any current missile defenses (Daily Mail).

President Pushes For $33 Billion in Additional Ukraine Funding

From the story: President Joe Biden has asked Congress for $33 billion to fund both humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine through September of this year, he said Thursday. The massive aid package is accompanied by a proposal to Congress that it amend several longstanding criminal laws to make it easier for the U.S. to sell off the seized assets of sanctioned Russian oligarchs. The $33 billion includes a request for $20.4 billion in additional security and military assistance for Ukraine, as well as additional money to fund U.S. efforts to bolster European security in cooperation with NATO allies. “It’s not cheap. But caving to aggression is going to be more costly if we allow it to happen,” Biden said Thursday (CNBC). ABC: “Russia is the aggressor—no ifs, ands or buts about it. Russia is the aggressor and the world must and will hold Russia accountable” (Twitter).

Biden Administration Looking to Send Veteran’s Affairs Resources to Illegals at Southern Border

The veterans aren’t pleased. From the story: During his recent testimony before Congress, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas informed lawmakers that the Biden administration was considering diverting resources from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to deal with Biden’s border debacle. This includes not just funding but also VA nurses and doctors who are tasked with caring for America’s veterans, and who may now be sent to care for illegal immigrants (Townhall). Breitbart: The remarks come as Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) had sought clarification on reports that the Biden administration was looking to siphon doctors and nurses away from the VA toward illegal aliens at the border. “In the words of one [Customs and Border Protection] official, ‘We’re going to take medical services away from people that really deserve that, who went to combat … to give free medical attention to illegal migrants,’” Hawley wrote in a letter to Mayorkas. Already, Americans are forced to subsidize medical care for illegal aliens to the tune of $18.5 billion annually. Last year alone, Americans footed the bill for more than $316 million in medical care for border crossers and illegal aliens who were detained in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody (Breitbart).

Suspended Anchor Suing ESPN, Disney for Retaliation After Questioning Vaccine Mandates

From the story: ESPN anchor Sage Steele sued the network and its parent, Walt Disney Co., alleging the company retaliated against her for comments she made in a podcast interview, breaching her contract and violating her free-speech rights. In comments last September on a podcast hosted by former National Football League quarterback Jay Cutler, Ms. Steele touched on political and social topics, questioning Covid-19 vaccine mandates and former President Barack Obama’s decision to identify as Black instead of biracial. After Ms. Steele’s remarks drew criticism in the press and on social media, ESPN forced her to issue an apology and temporarily benched her, according to the suit, which was served in Connecticut, where the network is based. ESPN also retaliated by taking away prime assignments and failing to stop bullying and harassment by Ms. Steele’s colleagues, the suit alleges (Wall Street Journal). PJ Media: Steele told Cutler that she got the COVID vaccine because Disney required her to do so, and that she did so to keep her job, but she opined that the mandate was “sick” and “scary to me in many ways.” She also talked about the fact that she identifies as biracial and contrasted that identification to Barack Obama identifying as black despite an absent black father and a white mother and grandmother who raised him. “You do you. I’m going to do me,” she concluded (PJ Media).

Hugh Hewitt talks with author and American Enterprise Institute Senior Fellow, Matthew Continetti, about the sunny, unifying personality of Ronald Reagan

Hugh Hewitt: I’ve only spent a dozen or 14 years of my life in the Beltway. And the result is — when you write about Ronald Reagan, that he had “peculiar qualities of optimism, sunniness, humor, and unflappability,” I don’t think those are peculiar. I think they are actually fairly...

Dennis Prager: “Democracy dies in darkness” is the motto of The Washington Post. The Washington Post is one of the great purveyors of darkness in our society. You would say it’s ironic. I don’t know if that is the proper adjective, but whether there is irony here or not, it is true. So, if...

Dinesh D’Souza is pumped about a recent boost in domestic drilling, even as the Biden administration stays staunchly opposed

Dinesh D’Souza: Oil drilling is picking up steam in Texas. And that is actually very good news for all of us. It actually should be good news for the Biden administration, but they don’t see it that way. In fact, I just saw Biden and he was saying, we kind of have to get away from this kind of...
